Restrictions on the composition of wood flooring primers and lacquers
Starting on January 01, 2007, under Directive 2004/42/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council and the order of the Minister of Environment and Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania No. D1-379/4-273, the limitation of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in primers and lacquers, intended for coating wood flooring, will be applied. From this day forth the maximum allowable VOC content is:
- 140 g/l – one-component and two-component water-base primers and lacquers;
- 600 g/l – one-component solvent primers and lacquers.
The content of VOC in these products must be indicated on labels of all primers and lacquers.
Swedish concern Bona, producing products for wood floorings of the highest quality, is ready for changes: series of Bona primers Prime and all lacquers meet new requirements and the products are appropriately marked.
The maximum content of VOC in Bona products is: Traffic – 100 g/l, Mega – 60 g/l, Flow – 50 g/l, Prime Intense and Tempo – 70 g/l, Prime Classic – only 30 g/l.
Subsurface solvent primer D-5 does not meet the new requirements. Consequently, starting on January 01, 2007, the import of coating D-5 to the market of the European Union is prohibited, however we will be selling the remainder of stock for some time yet.
